Increasing demand for energy efficient heating and cooling in the home has seen the increased use of dampers in the duct work to redirect air where it is most needed in the house. To date most installations with dampers have had very basic controls that simply allow zones to be turned on or off.

Our customer was committed to entering the market with a game changing product. Their system offers partial opening of simple dampers that are normally only fully open or fully closed to get better control of air flow. Further their system automatically controls the dampers to achieve the temperature preferences set by the user.

The pressure on the control system was substantial. The need for a large clear display to make it easy to operate, the need for extreme reliability (these products have long warranty) while operating in a very hot roof space, the need for reliable and accurate temperature measurement and all at a price point that would enable sales into a notoriously price conscious industry placed high requirements on the execution of the design process.

For the manufacture of the modules a Functional Tester and Programmer was provided that programs and performs full testing of every module
