CHINA AND MALAYSIA
One can not ignore that Australia is part of Asia when it comes to supply chain. China and Malaysia stand out in Asia for the electronics that Don Alan designs.
The reason is that when one takes into account the whole of the supply chain process including component and material logistics the labour cost is not the driving factor when choosing where to build.
The decision comes down to where is the most effective upstream supply chain, diversity of quality allied service providers (injection moulding, metal stamping etc) and secure stable infrastructure.
As a result China and Malaysia compete well despite increased wage costs and tax structures compared to countries like Vietnam and India.

Don Alan is engaged in millions of dollars each year of production and component supply from China and Malaysia.
Despite this the majority of our electronic module manufacture is in Australia and we are committed to maintaining a substantial first class manufacturing facility in Australia.
Our domestic facility maintains our expertise in manufacturing – without this you can not manage offshore production or design for manufacture. Our domestic facility allows us to be responsive to changes in customer demand and other supply disturbances without resorting to expensive air freight.
Our expertise in supply chain from China and Malaysia supports our design and supply of electronics assemblies and allied parts such as plastics, metal work and electrical cabinets. The old adage “horses for courses” applies well here.
Our partners throughout the APEC region offer us the ability to provide you with flexible, cost-effective and reliable supply chain solutions, tailored to each project.
For example, if you are placing sporadic orders of a few hundred modules, domestic production will be ideal.
However, where your orders will be thousands per year and predictable then offshore production through our APEC network is likely to be a more cost effective solution, especially when the enclosure and other accessories can also be supplied.
